October brings colourful leaves, cooler days and Thanksgiving tables filled with family. From my spot at SilverBirch, I’ve noticed something special about this time of year: it’s one of the few times when several generations may all be together in one place.

And sometimes, being together creates an opportunity to talk.

Over the years, the team at SilverBirch has had the privilege of getting to know entire families. Children we once heard stories about are now adults with careers and families of their own. Parents become grandparents, and suddenly there are several generations connected to one family story.

But how much does everyone actually know?

Not necessarily about account balances or investments, but about the bigger picture. Who does Mom or Dad turn to when they need help? Who are the important professionals involved? What plans are already in place? And who should the family call if something unexpected happens?

These are some of the conversations behind SilverBirch family meetings. We bring generations together, create a comfortable place to ask questions, and help everyone understand the people and plans surrounding their family.

It doesn’t mean sharing every financial detail. It simply means starting a conversation before that conversation becomes necessary.

Maybe that’s what I like most about Thanksgiving. Everyone is already around the table.

And sometimes, that’s exactly where an important family conversation begins.
