The Inside Scoop with Luna for October 2025

As overheard from my basket beside Vanessa Benedict, Wealth Advisor & Portfolio Manager

“Renting is just throwing money away.” A young couple and their parents were chatting about what makes sense these days when starting out.

The parents, who’d bought their first home decades ago when the path to home ownership felt simpler, couldn’t imagine doing it any other way. The newlyweds, considering a move to B.C. for a year, and dreaming about starting a small business, weren’t convinced that owning right now was the right fit for them.

Vanessa said she’s been hearing versions of this conversation a lot lately. Every generation has its own balancing act of freedom, stability, and responsibility, and the mix keeps changing. For these two, flexibility meant having room to travel, build something new, and find their footing before settling down.

What struck me wasn’t who was right. It was how quickly the mood shifted once everyone stopped arguing numbers and started hearing each other. The parents saw that their kids weren’t being reckless, just realistic about what their next few years might look like.

From where I sit, it wasn’t just about owning or renting. It was about learning to see each other’s version of stability and realizing the goal stays the same, even when the path looks different.

Until next time, Luna 🐾
