The Inside Scoop with Luna for August 2025
A couple sat across from Vanessa as they considered selling their family cottage, a place that tied three generations together. From my basket, I caught the whiff of tension. I’m Luna, SilverBirch Wealth Management’s Associate of Pawsitive Attitudes.
The husband muttered it would be easier to sell. The wife’s eyes softened, remembering mornings on the dock, first with their children, and now with their grandchildren, skipping stones on the lake. She couldn’t imagine letting that go.
Seems to me that more than houses, cottages hold memories, stir emotions, and can spark squabbles, especially when shared. Who can afford what? And who takes on the upkeep, or gets the long weekends?
Vanessa laid out options like trusts, buyouts, usage agreements. They leaned in. For the first time, the couple could see a path that didn’t end with a “for sale” sign. By the end, nothing was decided, but they knew their options. They left with notes and a way forward, happier than when they’d walked in.
They’ll be back soon, they said. First, they’ll talk it through with their kids. I saw Vanessa nod and smile. She knows families do better when they’re all part of the conversation, not just handed the decision.
Until next time, Luna 🐾
